To understand how light can impact our sleep; we need to delve into how the brain works. In the latter is our internal clock: a "watch" that will direct our metabolism by giving orders during the day. This clock is clocked according to several external factors: our social rhythm, our physical activities, our food but also the light.
More precisely, it is the color of the light that will impact our sleep. Indeed each color has its unique signature: its wavelength. Each color will have a specific impact on our sleep hormone, melatonin. This hormone is naturally secreted by the body and is dictated by your internal clock.
This diagram shows the colors (wavelengths) that have an impact on melatonin: the blue color will slow down its secretion and thus prevent you from sleeping while the red color will let melatonin be secreted naturally in your body. This is why it is not recommended to use your smartphone when you are in your bed because its screen will diffuse blue light and block the secretion of melatonin: then you will have more trouble falling asleep.
By collaborating with the European Sleep Center and Dr. Duforez, we have developed sleep and wake-up programs to help you fall asleep and wake up naturally.
The sleep program uses orange shades that will gradually turn into a warm red light; this will unblock the secretion of melatonin and help you fall asleep more easily.
The wake up program uses different blue shades that will gradually turn into a warm white light to block melatonin and help you wake up naturally in the morning.
The HOMNI Smart Sleep Solution is a true sleep companion to help you fall asleep more easily in the evening and wake you up naturally in the morning. All programs are customizable to suit you: program duration and ability to add music already preinstalled in HOMNI.
